DriverWin8

If you tried the Windows 7 USB driver installation instructions on your Windows 8 PC, you probably encountered the following dialog box ...

Note the line "The third party INF does not contain digital signature information". All you can do is close this dialog, because Windows 8 will not let you go any further.

In Windows 8, Microsoft introduced further 'security measures' which prevent any user from installing 'unsigned drivers' such as the Firewing USB driver, unless you very deliberately disable this feature.

Having disabled the 'feature', you can install the driver, and the strict security is restored at the next 'Restart'. It is strongly suggested that at the end of the procedure you properly reboot your PC by choosing 'Restart' - if you have 'fast boot' enabled (most people do), then using 'Shut down' and subsequently turning the PC back on again, is not equivalent to 'Restart' and it leaves your PC vulnerable to other unsigned drivers which you may not want to trust. Please use 'Restart'!

Let's get going. You need to make those annoying 'charms' appear on the right of the screen, as below.

In the screenshot above, click on the 'Settings' charm ...

In the screenshot above, go to the bottom right and select 'Change PC Settings' ...

In the screenshot above, select the 'General' item ...

In the screenshot above, there is now a long list of options on the right. Scroll to the bottom of that list and click on 'Restart now' in the 'Advanced start-up' section. Don't worry, everything starts to go blue now!

After a few moments, the screen above will appear. Click on 'Troubleshoot'.

Now click on 'Advanced options'.

In the screenshot above, there are other items to the left (out of sight here), but you need to click on 'Startup settings'.

The screen above simply tells you what is about to happen. After clicking on 'Restart', the screen goes blank as the PC starts to shut down. It will then come back shortly with one final blue screen ...

You can only choose to do one of these things. Press '7' or 'F7' on your keyboard. The PC will boot up as normal, but with unsigned driver security temporarily disabled.

Now you will be able to install the driver exactly as described in the Windows 7 procedure here. Just remember to 'Restart' properly when you have finished!
