Really dumb question on firewing board

Postby Timbo » Wed Nov 08, 2017 10:52 am

Hello...

I needed to try an old firewing shield I had. Plugged in the firewing 16 board R2. Win 10 seemed to do its job and installed drives and told me new serial port on Coms 4. New PC so downloaded and installed the fire wing software.

Found the original code and compiled but get error "unable to find FIrewing"

There seems to be no settings to tell it it's on Coms 4.

So what is the best procedure to make the 2 ends meet so I can get the code on the board?

Thanks

Hi Timbo,

but did you install the driver properly or did you say that driver does not have the digital signature?
In the list of devices under serial ports (COMx), see "Firewing .." or "Serial COMn" ?

The driver is not certified and forces you to disable digital signature verification and have to install it with the "I have a disk" procedure pointing to the folder of the USB Firewing driver ("C: \ Program Files (x86) Mecanique \ Firewing \ USB Driver ")

To disable the digital signature verification of drivers definitively from command line as administrator :

Code: Select all
bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on

If you do not disable the verification permanently you are forced to :
1) go in the restart options
2) disable verification
3) reboot
4) install the drivers
.. that then disappear at each reboot

To re-enable the digital signature verification the sintax is:

Code: Select all
bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks off

Then there would be problems with Windows Defender ( Smartscreen protection ) that I have disabled in checking the folders where Firewing and Swordfish are installed (their Bin folder).
This speeded up the startup of the two applications and I had already done this when I updated my computer to W10 and had W8.1 and from Firewing IDE with the Swordfish Toolsuite installed I did not find the Swordfish compiler.

Hi

Thanks

The com ports are all OK inc Com4 which was made when I first connected the board. The only USB device with an issue is the dongle for swordfish that I forgot is not needed for firewing.

So basically it all looks ok. Going to try again on another PC.

Hi

So I installed firewing on my laptop, plugged in the board. Win 10 informed me it was setting stuff up. In no time it said Com5 was ready. But again firewing cannot see the board.

Could it be there is no firmware on the fire wing board? I know I have never reprogramed it.

FW driver is not installed by setup.
You have to install the driver manually if you have not done it before and in W10/W8.1 as mentioned here http://www.firewing.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=273#p1501

PS: I tried uninstalling the driver and I get the name of the COM when I mount the Firewing card but clearly I can not program it.

Hi,

Win 10 just seems to have made a serial port. There are no references to fire wing. I tried updating the driver but it said it had the best driver already.

I think windows is just taking over using a standard serial driver and firewing is looking for a device name thats not there.

Hi Timbo

You need to install the firewing driver in a specific way, like Coccoliso pointed out a few posts ago..

Here is the way I installed Firewing driver on my laptop with windows 10..

Link: http://www.firewing.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=273&p=1506#p1501

Hi guys.. This is how I get the drivers to work on my Windows 10

First I had to disable "driver digital signature" on my Windows 10 device, David has already done a tutorial on this for Windows 8 in the following link
http://www.firewing.info/pmwiki.php?n=F ... DriverWin8 The procedure is similar to Windows 10.

Once Windows 10 has restarted you now need to go into "Device Manager" and Update Driver Software on the selected device which Windows installed for the firewing board -
which may look like this "USB Serial device COM3".

You then need to select:
1. "Browse my computer for driver software"
2. "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
3. "Have Disk"
Browse for firewing driver "firewingCDC.inf" and then Click OK
You should then be taken back to the previous pop up window which said "Have Disk".
4. Now Click "Next"

That should install the firewing driver...
If a pop up window appears complaining about the driver not being digital signed?
just choose the option to install the driver anyway..

Hi

OK solved it. When you update the driver you need to use "have disk" after disabling signed driver checking.

Many many thanks!

Hi bitfogav

Sorry I posted my response without refreshing so did not see your reply. It was very well written and informative.

Sorry if it looked like I was not saying thanks.

Cheers

BTW I was digging out a pressure sensor chip 0-1psi mounted on a shield. I wanted to get a resolution of 1mm mmh20. It can notice a pressure but these things are not stable. Leave it alone for 1 min and its drifted. All its done is remind me how rubbish they are.
