First, thanks to all that are looking in to this problem. It's gratifying to know the software developer and other top 'brains' on this site are available to assist.
I'm at a hotel with crappy wireless, then later to a remote site with no connection so my time online is limited. It's about 7am here now, so we've got the time zone thing to deal with.

I've tested PicBasic Pro, MikroBASIC dsp/24 pro, Swordfish (which I used a lot), and Proton BASIC fro PIC24....all with no problem

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 6400 , dual core 2GB. No recent updates to video drivers. I can load any of the sample programs and compile with no problems, which somewhat baffles me.

I will try and make short video of loading FW, the test program , and the task manager monitor window to see firewing gobble up memory until it crashes.

It makes no sense to me. I too have looked at the .bas file with a hex editor (010 Editor...it's great!) Interestingly, if yo do a 'File New' and Save , then look at the file there is no CR/LF after the 'End sub' statement. If I add one in firewing, then save , it runs out of memory.

Is there a firewing log somewhere I can look at? I'm looking in Windows control panel/Admin tools/event viewer and services and don't see anything significant.

I'm here till about 11 my time, so I'll see what I can find.

Thanks again for all the input.

To be honest, the video is unlikely to help - I think you have described the problem pretty well. Just to be clear, do any of the sample files build? May I suggest you try the following

(1) Close down the IDE
(2) Delete the complete registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MecaniqueUK\FirewingIDE
(3) restart the IDE
(4) open and build one of the sample files

Let me know if it builds OK...

UPDATE:

All files I have been trying to load, and files I have saved, have been on a USB flash drive.
I copied the TEST.BAS file to 'My Documents' on the C: drive, and it loads fine, no errors.
Copied several other files to hard drive and loaded them, and they all worked as well.
This was on the XP machine. I'll check the Win7/64 machine this afternoon.

All the sample programs were on hard drive also.

It appears to be related to files on the USB drive somehow.

POSSIBLE RESOLUTION:

While checking the flash drive, I found an installation of FIREWING with all but the .BIN directory. I must have inadvertently installed it on the flash drive at some point. I deleted the installation off the flash drive all all seems to work fine. Weird.....I was running firewing from the hard drive...why would the partial installation on the flash drive cause a problem?

Probably the clue is in "partial". Anyway, sounds like you are up and running...
